London 1

The Maple Leaf - This was the Canadian bar we went to (their poutine sucks and they were out of Sleeman's)

Right.  So it has been brought to my attention that I'm quite a bit behind on my blogging.  Oops, guess I've been too busy doing stuff hahaha :P

So I've been to Paris, Normandy, and I'm currently in Nice so I'll do my best to try to remember what I did in London.  Wish me luck...

Making a fool of myself at the Canadian High Commission.  Hey, Gordon Campbell said I should treat it like my home.

What I did:
  • Visit to Canadian High Commission for Olympics kick-off event, Olympics multi-national bar hopping day, Olympic Boxing at ExCeL Centre, exploring London.

Highlights:
  • Olympic boxing - Not sure if anybody follows Olympic boxing, but there have been a number of controversies with regards to poor judging.  That wasn't the case for the bouts I saw!  There were a few close ones that could have gone either way, but nothing blatantly wrong.  No Canadians fought so I wore my Canada shirt for nothing, but the last fight was a real brawl between an Aussie and an American.  And I do mean brawl - these were big guys (81 kg weight class) and they just pounded the crap out of each other.  The crowd really got into it.  The Australian ended up winning the fight and I think he deserved it, but it was really close.
  • Meeting Canadian Olympians - I got to meet Adam Kreek and Beckie Scott at an Olympics kick-off event at the Canadian High Commission.  Adam Kreek won a gold medal in Rowing (Men's Eights) and is now a motivational speaker.  He's a bit of a douche, which I say as a compliment.  He turned his gold medal into his belt buckle and it's definitely quite a conversation starter to ask people to look at it while you're wearing it...  But he's douchy in a way that I'd still sit down and have a beer with the guy, so that's why I don't mean douche as an insult here.  Beckie Scott was hilarious and really really sweet.  The things she said about her sport (X-Country Skiing)...  "Somebody once described the sport as downhill skiing without the fun bits...  we used to say that the only way Canadians would get a top three finish would be if you turned the page upside down..."

It loses some of the magic when you figure out how he does this

Lowlights:
  • Wow this was the warmest winter Olympics ever!  Even warmer than the mess we had in Vancouver for our Olympic Games!  Wait, what?  This was the summer Olympics???  Hahaha sorry to complain about the London weather, real original I know...  :)  To be honest though, the rain was kind of nice.  Reminded me of home!

Sunday roast!

Random Thought:  Kind of tempted to pick up boxing now...  Except I saw the guys that are in my weight class and now I'm too afraid!!!  :P

Yes, I'm ready to rrrrrrrumbleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

All for me?  Okay!  :D

And you want me to be the torch bearer too???
